This season sees the wonderfully crisp and clear autumn weather that encourages so many of us to go out and explore. From hiking, camping and even walking there are so many outdoor activities that can be enjoyed at this time of year.
However these months also are the height of the tick season. Ticks can be a danger, not only to your cat or dog but also to you so it’s important to be vigilant when preventing and treating, particularly if you’ve been out walking in woodland forest or grassy areas.
According to new research commissioned by Bob Martin, only 17% of pet owners brush their dog after going for a walk, so ticks which may have climbed into their coat are more likely to attach and feed. A third know to brush their pets outside, but 54% of dogs are brushed inside (with nearly a fifth – 19% - in the lounge, in front of the TV!), so any dirt and pests like ticks will drop off inside – putting the family at risk.
The research also highlighted that only a quarter of pet owners check their pets for ticks when returning for a walk, and only 9% check their family. Dogs and cats should be checked daily for ticks and regular grooming is the best way to do this, with it being good habit to check following a walk before you get back into the car or the house.
Thanks to our friends at Bob Martin, we are giving away an essential walking bundle to make sure you and your pets are safe from ticks.
