A new survey has highlighted the inability of Brits to spell even the most basic words and revealed that only 50% of Brits are confident enough to check homework for spelling mistakes of a 5 year old.

The research commissioned by Ruzzle for Brain Awareness Week also showed that only half of adults could identify the correct spelling of definitely without the help of spellcheck. Perhaps an indication of how worryingly accepting we are of our spelling limitations, only 40% of men said that they pride themselves on their good spelling, a figure outstripped by women with 53% saying that they would be upset if they spelt a word incorrectly on a document or message.
